Brandon Smith Bio
Brandon Smith is a drummer, composer, and collaborator based in Columbus, Ohio. His annual performance schedule includes over 200 shows across multiple bands and projects.
Since 2009, Brandon has been the house drummer for Shadowbox Live (SBX), the nation's largest resident theater. SBX’s 50-plus member ensemble is in a state of constant creation, utilizing modern music and technical innovations to shift genres and meld performing art forms in a dozen productions across 250 performances every year.
As a member of Light—SBX's concept band—Brandon has co-written the score for two original ballets, "7 Deadly Sins" (BalletMet, Columbus) and "The Masque" (Verb Ballet, Dayton). Other Light projects include a metamedia art/dance experience “Gallery of Echoes” a retelling of a Japanese folk tale (The Tenshu) and a David Mack graphic novel brought to life on stage (Kabuki: Circle of Blood) (2017).
In addition to creating new work, SBX provides Brandon with an opportunity to master the work of some of music's greatest bands. He has worked on SBX's mega-hit tribute shows to Joe Cocker, David Bowie, Prince, Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Brandon has also co-developed scores for the company's original musicals Underland, F*** Cancer, and Musical: The Musical. Offstage, Brandon is a teaching artist in the SBX Performance Academy, a nationally recognized education program that encourages young musicians to discover, cultivate, and apply their artistic abilities on and off stage.
